A marketplace website was experiencing a significant number of account takeover campaigns. They sought our expertise to identify potential vulnerabilities that could be exploited for account takeovers
We conducted a comprehensive black box testing, focusing primarily on the website's authentication and authorization mechanisms. Our goal was to uncover the methods used by attackers to compromise user accounts.
Our efforts led to an 80% reduction in account takeover incidents. The remaining 20% of account takeovers were attributed to phishing campaigns. To address this, we recommended and implemented an educational banner on the website, informing users about legitimate marketplace emails and how to recognize phishing attempts
Burp Suite Pro: Utilized for in-depth analysis and identification of web vulnerabilities, helping to pinpoint weaknesses in the website’s authentication processes.
SQLMap: Deployed for automated detection and exploitation of SQL injection vulnerabilities, ensuring database security.
Custom Scripts: Developed specifically to meet the unique needs of the project, addressing particular vulnerabilities that standard tools might miss.
Postman: Employed for thorough API testing and debugging, ensuring secure and reliable communication between the client and server.
We significantly reduced account takeover incidents through targeted security testing and user education. Our proactive approach not only identified and mitigated technical vulnerabilities but also empowered users to better protect their accounts from phishing attacks.
